Abstract
This paper constructs a panel dataset by using data from the China Household Finance Survey (CHFS) and the Climate Physical Risk Index (CPRI) for the period 2011-2017 to examine the impact of climate risks on household economic resilience and the moderating roles of digital inclusive finance and social security. The findings reveal that: (1) climate risks negatively affect household economic resilience, a finding that holds up following a series of robustness tests; (2) heterogeneity analysis indicating that the negative effect of climate risks on household economic resilience is more distinctive in female-headed households and unmarried households. (3) Higher levels of digital inclusive finance and social security are associated with a weaker negative climate-risk-resilience relationship, although the economic magnitudes are modest. Consequently, based on the above findings, this paper presents a series of policy recommendations to assist households in coping with climate risks and enhancing their economic resilience.
